District Attorney Jan Scully announced that Robert Ruiz was convicted by jury on multiple counts of child molestation.

Ruiz was a friend of the victim’s family. The young victim is deaf and has a learning disability. Her parents trusted Ruiz because he and his family were also deaf, including his children. The victim frequently spent the night at Ruiz’s home because she was friends with his children.

Ruiz molested the young girl over a period of four years before she reported the abuse to school personnel.Deputy District Attorney Carlton Davis thanks District Attorney Victim Advocate Mailyn Chuong for her work with the victim and her family.

Ruiz faces a maximum sentence of 125 years to life in prison. Sentencing is set for June 1, 2012 at
9:00 a.m. in Department 14 of the Sacramento Superior Court.
