Sylvester Griffin was sentenced by the Honorable to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Last month, Griffin was convicted by jury of murder, rape, and first degree burglary in the 2009 killing of 64-year-old Alice Lynn Murphy. Alice Murphy lived alone in a senior apartment complex in Folsom.

Griffin was a driver for a medical transport company and had a client that lived in the same complex. In December 2009, Murphy was found dead in her apartment by a friend.

She had been raped and smothered to death and DNA evidence was collected at the crime scene. A match was found in the FBI's DNA database, and the Folsom Police Department was notified of Griffin’s identity.

The Sacramento County District Attorney's Crime Lab confirmed the match that linked Griffin to the crime scene.
