Ronnie Vang
A man convicted of murder after being released from prison for only four days received a death sentence for his actions today.

District Attorney Jan Scully announced today that a jury returned a death sentence verdict for Ronnie Vang. His cousin and co-defendant, Joson Vang, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on January 10, 2014.

On December 4, 2013, two separate juries convicted Ronnie Vang and Joson Vang for the first degree murder of 44-year-old Keith Fessler. They were both convicted on additional charges of robbery, burglary, arson of the victim’s house and theft of the victim’s car. Ronnie Vang was also convicted of arson of the car and the attempted burglary of another home.

On June 23, 2009, the Vangs broke into Fessler’s South Sacramento home, stole several of his musical instruments, and hogtied Mr. Fessler . Ronnie Vang, who had been released from prison four days earlier, then shot Mr. Fessler twice in the back of the head before they set the house on fire. Ronnie Vang later said he killed Fessler to avoid being identified.
