Sacramento Man Sentenced in Racially Motivated Assault

District Attorney Jan Scully announced today that the Honorable Delbert Oros sentenced 31-year-old Christopher Carlisle to 7 years in state prison.

On May 6, 2014, a jury convicted Carlisle of assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury and battery with serious bodily injury. The jury also found true that Carlisle personally inflicted great bodily injury and that both counts were hate crimes.

On July 17, 2013, Carlisle was gambling at the Casino Royale, then located on Auburn Boulevard. He began to use racial epithets before calling the victim a murderer. The victim is Latino.

When security asked Carlisle to leave, he punched the victim in the face. The victim suffered a fractured jaw and underwent surgery as a result.
