Sacramento Roommate Murderer Convicted, Could Face Life

District Attorney Jan Scully announced today that Linda Gabaldon was convicted by jury of first-degree murder. They jury also found true a use of a handgun allegation.

Gabaldon was a roommate of the victim. The two got into an argument and Gabaldon shot the victim four times the next morning. Gabaldon testified that the victim pulled a gun on her and it went off during a struggle. The autopsy showed that at least two of the gunshot wounds would have caused the victim to drop to the floor immediately, contradicting Gabaldon’s testimony about a struggle.

Gabaldon faces a potential maximum sentence of 50 years to life in prison. Additional time may be added pending a court trial on a prior strike allegation of a 2001 robbery. Sentencing is set for July 18, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. in Department 38 before the Honorable Sharon Lueras.
