Career Criminal Convicted in Series of Midtown Sacramento Robberies

Mark Allen Thompson was convicted yesterday by a jury trail in Sacramento Superior Court on charges of robbery with great bodily injury, a second robbery, and a residential burglary.

On September 30, 2015, a female victim was walking to her apartment in midtown Sacramento when Thompson attacked her from behind. Thompson knocked the victim to the ground, slammed her head on the ground, and strangled her until she lost consciousness.

He then stole her purse, phone and keys. The victim suffered memory loss, speech impairment and severe bruising.

On October 2, 2015, a second female victim was walking to the bus stop on the corner of F and 23rd Street when Thompson attacked her from behind. The victim fought back until Thompson fled the scene, taking the victim’s briefcase with him.

On the same day, a third female victim was returning to her apartment near F and 22nd Street. As she entered the residence, she heard someone going through her kitchen window blinds and called 911.

Responding officers located Thompson around the corner from the apartment and found property belonging to all three victims. Thompson’s criminal history dates back to 1999 with convictions for crimes including aggravated assault, attempted false imprisonment, drug charges, theft, breaking and entering, possessing a concealed weapon, and receiving stolen property.

Thompson’s sentencing is set for October 12, 2016, at 9 a.m. in Department 41 before Judge Helena Gweon. A Court trial will be held to prove the allegation of a prior strike conviction. Thompson faces a maximum potential sentence of 25 years in prison.
