Sacramento Sherriff's Makes Arrest in Murder Case From 2012

Today the Sacramento County Sheriff announced an arrest had been made in a murder that occurred on August 20, 2012.

The Sheriff’s Homicide detectives arrested Shamar Armstrong, 24, of North Highlands for the murder of 24-year-old Andrew Coy.

On August 20, 2012, deputies responded to the 5700 block of Haskell Avenue regarding an assault. While responding to the call, deputies received updated information that the victim may also have been shot, but no further details were given.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies found Coy unresponsive inside a residence, having sustained a gunshot wound to his upper body. Despite attempts by deputies to perform life-saving measures, the victim succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased by medical personnel at the scene.

A marijuana deal was set up between the victim and the suspects. The suspects met for the marijuana deal at a residence, and once inside, the suspects pulled guns on the victim and his friends and demanded money. During the incident, one of the suspects shot Coy in the upper body.

Armstrong also shot at one of Coy’s friends but missed. The suspects fled the scene in a dark colored, four-door sedan.

Through the investigation, detectives were able to determine that Armstrong was at the scene, and was one of the three suspects involved in the murder of Andrew Coy. The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and submitted a warrant for Armstrong’s arrest.

Just before 11:00 p.m. on June 20, deputies located Armstrong on a vehicle stop near Roseville Road and Longview Drive in Sacramento. He was arrested for his warrant without incident.

Armstrong was arrested for murder and attempted murder and booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail. He is currently ineligible for bail, and is scheduled to be arraigned in Sacramento Superior Court on June 23, 2017.

Detectives are still looking to identify the other two suspects that were involved in the murder. They were described as two black male adults in their 20’s. Anyone with information relating to this incident is asked to please contact the Sheriff’s Department at (916) 874-5115 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP.
