One person suspected in a carjacking of an ice cream truck is in custody at the Sacramento County Jail, and law enforcement officials have identified a second person of interest.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, who provides police services in Rancho Cordova says that the suspect taken into custody following the Wednesday, July 17 incident is Larnelle Lamont Flournoy, 32. Detectives say they are now seeking the whereabouts of  Christina Butuza, 31, for her possible involvement in the event.  

The carjacking earlier this week started just after 1:30 p.m. when Flournoy allegedly hijacked the of the icecream truck near Sunrise Boulevard and Fitgerald Road in Rancho Cordova. After crashing the ice cream truck into a ditch, Flournoy then hijacked a nearby BMW forcing the driver out of the vehicle.  

The suspect was pursued by deputies westbound on Douglas Boulevard at a high rate of speed. The suspect crashed into a red sedan at the intersection of Douglas Boulevard and Zinfandel Drive. The solo female occupant sustained minor injuries and treated at an area hospital.

The suspect ran into an adjacent field and witnesses described seeing a gun in the suspect’s hand as he ran. Deputies contained the area, and members of the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Detail (SED) responded to the location. With the assistance of the Sheriff’s helicopter, the suspect was located in the field and taken into custody.

The suspect was at a hospital for treatment of injuries before being booked into the county jail. Flournoy is now being held at the county jail with an arraignment on Tuesday, July 23. 

Bail is $145,000. Flournoy's charges include carjacking and violation of probation.
