Stolen bicycle valued at $5,000 recovered from online sales site, suspect arrested by RCPD



A stolen bicycle valued at more than $5,000 was recovered after police received a tip on its whereabouts. 

On Thursday, July 11, an out-of-county resident contacted the Rancho Cordova Police Department regarding the bike which was stolen from a Rancho Cordova residence. The caller informed police the the the stolen bicycle was being sold on OfferUp.

The caller had arranged a meeting with the supposed seller and was accompanied by an RCPD officer. When the seller saw the police officer, they attempted to flee and after a short pursuit was apprehended.  

After verifying the bicycle was the resident’s property, Justin Hauptman, 46, of Rancho Cordova was arrested and booked into Sacramento County Main Jail. Hauptman was released from custody.
