Suspect arrested in Elverta murder of roommate

Sacramento Sheriff's have taken a suspect into custody in connection to a murder last week. Grant Lee Sherman, 21 has been booked into the county jail on voluntary manslaughter charges.

On July 13, sheriff’s deputies received reports of an unresponsive male with visible injuries in the 5300 block of Jackson Street in North Highlands. Deputies responded and performed CPR on the victim until the Fire Department arrived.

The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene and has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as 22-year-old Austin Sweet.

Homicide detectives responded and conducted an investigation into the circumstances of Sweet’s death. Detectives determined Sweet was involved in an altercation with his roommate, 21-year-old Grant Sherman (see attached) when he was killed.

There are no outstanding suspects in this case and no motive is known at this time. Arraignment is on Tuesday, July 16.
