Driver of stolen vehicle, passenger killed after high-speed pursuit ends on wrong side of freeway

A driver of a reported stolen vehicle and a passenger were killed following a high-speed pursuit.

On the afternoon of Thursday, August 1 an off duty police officer noticed a reported stolen Honda being driven on eastbound SR 20 outside of Colusa city limits.  Patrol units from Colusa County Sheriff's Department and Colusa Police responded and found the vehicle near SR-20 near SR-45.

As soon as the driver was aware of the marked units, he accelerated to speeds in excess of 100 mph. Units pursued the Honda until he attempted to pass vehicles on the Sutter Bypass bridge.

The Honda began to travel eastbound in the westbound lane and ultimately crashed head-on with a big rig truck. The driver of the Honda, identified as a 21-year old male, and a 25-year-old female passenger both sustained fatal injuries.

The driver of the big rig truck sustained no injuries. The CHP Yuba-Sutter Area is handling the crash investigation.
