Citing the tragic shooting at last month's Gilroy Garlic Festival, Lodi Police has announced plans to increase security at an upcoming event.

In a social media posting, Lodi Police said some of its foot officers equipped with patrol officers. 

The statement said "We believe that it will make the environment safer by not only dissuading any potential threats but to give officers another option should a life-threatening incident occur. We understand the public concern regarding the appearance of these weapons but we must balance this concern with our duty to provide a safe environment for our community members and visitors." 

The city's annual Grape Festival starts this Thursday and runs through Sunday, September 15. Information about the annual event is available here
